Anger Management in NYC

“Try to manage your anger because people can’t manage their stupidity”

What is Anger Management and how can it benefit me?

It’s completely normal to feel angry. However, if you get angry frequently, it is intense each time, or it leads to hurting yourself or others, your anger may become a problem.

Some of the consequences of chronic anger include:

  • Higher susceptibility to heart disease, and high blood pressure
  • Lowered energy, impaired thoughts
  • Worsened relationships, alienation of family, friends, coworkers, etc.

In anger management, the goal is to find better ways to deal with anger, particularly the emotions and thoughts that surround it. Indeed, it may not always be possible to prevent situations that cause you to be angry; however, it is possible to improve ways to deal with anger. With anger management, you can train yourself to recognize triggers that lead to your anger, temper your emotions, and improve self-control when it comes to anger. Additionally, you can develop ways to express your feelings, which would otherwise be anger, in a healthier way.

What happens during Anger Management?

The main approach to anger management therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most often choice for anger management therapy. The premise of CBT is to train you to understand how your thoughts affect your behaviors, and work towards restructuring your thoughts to change your behaviors. For anger management, CBT can help you recognize what triggers your anger, and develop skills to deal with situations that would normally make you angry. In response to situations that would make you angry, you can be calmer and more in control.

You may also develop other skills, such as relaxation techniques, through CBT. These may include strategies such as deep breathing to remain calm, choosing to leave the room and return when you feel calm again, and such.
